TYLER J. YOUNG
Tyler Young is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. He attended Southern Utah University where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He continued his education at Gonzaga University and received his Master of Arts in Community Counseling in 2007.
For more than a decade, Tyler worked in psychiatric residential treatment settings with teenagers who need long-term, intensive treatment. This experience has readied Tyler to assist families who have adolescents struggling with mental health issues. Individual and family therapy can help prevent the need for more intensive treatment. In addition, Tyler has provided counseling services to children in the foster care system and currently works in the pediatric clinical setting.
As a private practitioner, Tyler works with a broad spectrum of clients, but aims to focus treatment on strengthening the family unit. According to research, nearly half of America's children live through adverse childhood experiences which can negatively influence both child development and a functioning adulthood. Adverse childhood experiences can include divorce, economic hardship, trauma, loss, and parental substance abuse and mental illness. Children exposed to such toxic stressors often have trouble with self-control, managing emotions, maintaining personal relationships, and educational success. Without treatment options like counseling, long-term negative effects are linked to health issues ranging from obesity to substance abuse, suicide, depression, smoking, chronic disease and more.
Tyler is certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). He is also EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained. He specializes in building relationships and rapport with his clients while utilizing their strengths to help them develop pro-social goals.
Tyler is married and has four children, three sons and a daughter. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, watching sports and reading.
